Blockchain opportunities for content creators

Photographers, blog writers or vloggers spend their time creating content for peoples’ enjoyment, entertainment or education. They create value. It just makes sense for them to be financially compensated for their work.

Reality often is not as simple.

Earning revenue from content is a tough feat. While budget for advertising runs straight from the advertiser to the platform, the original creator of the content will often not see any of it.

This is due to multiple reasons, the major one being lack of proper accreditation: “As soon as something is on the internet, it belongs to the internet”. This prevents usage by unprivileged people and false accreditation.


As stated before, content creators should receive appropriate payment for their work. This does not happen throughout centralized platforms. Content will be shared, misused and copied without the creator even knowing about it.

And even if there are binding contracts over content these are heavily uneven: The focus lies on creators that have obtained a huge organic follower base and they are asked to sign contracts that are straight out unfair and unfavourable- revenue is shared unevenly. The most famous example being exploitive YouTube-networks.

Blockchain-powered platforms allow the creator to monetize their work in their own way, no need to sign a contract with any platform.

Enabling your readers and consumers to support you in individual ways makes the agreement more personal and freer of boundaries. People also should not only require paying for content but be able to support creators for providing exceptionally good content.

Platforms like Steemit and Patreon for example allow for tipping and individual subscription models with different tiers of rewards. This way you can not only potentially earn more revenue, but also know whether the quality of your content is up to peoples’ standards.

Audience data

A big part of marketing is knowing your audience – content creation is no different. Knowing your demographic and their interests will help you improve content – The more accurate the data the better. The issue:

By having a thorough understanding of your audiences not only can more targeted content be produced, but better marketing can be done.

Making the switch

Using decentralized platforms comes with a huge array of advantages – not only for creators but also for users.

While cost for users might become lower as well due to the creator having a higher cut of the payment, requiring them to charge less; at the same time users gain an additional freedom in what content they want to consume and what not – which content they want to pay for, which not.

So let’s not hesitate from making the change – Lets not rely on 3rd party platforms, but adopt the technology. It has more advantages than one might think.
